  • Today, we’ll teach you how to pronounce the days of the week in Portuguese. Then, we’ll put them into context, which will help you memorise them more effectively.

  • It’s not necessary to say feira each time. Sometimes we do, and sometimes we don’t.

  • Feira comes from the word Feria, which means, day of rest. We’ll cover this in more detail in another article.

  • So for example We are open from Monday to Friday.
  • ESTAMOS ABERTOS DE SEGUNDA A SEXTA-FEIRA.
  • ESTAMOS ABERTOS DE SEGUNDA A SEXTA-FEIRA
  • You may be wondering why the first day of the week is called SEGUNDA. or second day. The short answer is that the church decided to adopt the numbers system that The Moors and The Jews used. We’ll talk about this in more depth another time.

  • Another example is: On Tuesday I go to the swimming pool.
  • Na terça feira eu vou á piscina.
  • Na terça feira eu vou á piscina.
  • If you want to say I go to the swimming pool every Tuesday or on Tuesdays, you would say
  • Ás terças feiras eu vou á piscina

  • Another example would be On Wednesday I am going out for lunch.
  • Na quarta feira eu vou almoçar fora.
  • Na quarta feira eu vou almoçar fora.
  • On Wednesday translates into, On the Wednesday
  • Na quarta feira eu vou almoçar fora.

  • A further example:
  • The meeting was scheduled for next Thursday.
  • Para or for, in English and “que vem” - that’s coming or next week.
  • A reunião é para a quinta feira da semana que vem.
  • A reunião é para a quinta feira da semana que vem.
  • On Friday I go shopping
  • Na sexta feira eu vou às compras
  • Na sexta feira eu vou às compras

  • No sábado passado fui à praia.
  • No sábado passado fui à praia.
  • Last Saturday I went to the beach
  • Here we are using NO and not NA because Sábado and Domingo are masculine words. All the other weekdays are feminine.
  • Now we have another example.
  • Aos domingos mandamos vir uma pizza.
  • Aos domingos mandamos vir uma pizza.
  • Aos , because it’s at the Sundays, on Sundays we order pizza.
  • Aos domingos mandamos vir uma pizza.
